Dr. Amy Bromley, MD, appointed associate dean, Undergraduate Medical Education
The Cumming School of Medicine (CSM) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Amy Bromley, MD, as the new associate dean of Undergraduate Medical Education (UME). The appointment takes effect Jan. 1, 2024. She will take over the role held by Dr. Christopher Naugler, MD, since July 2019.
Dr. Bromley is an assistant professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the CSM and an anatomical pathologist whose work has focused on autopsy pathology, patient safety and quality management. Within the department, Dr. Bromley has held various education and leadership positions since 2012. She developed the Masters of Pathologists’ Assistant program and has served as co-program director and Competence By Design lead for the Anatomical Pathology Residency Training Program. She currently holds the position as Director of Education for the department.
Dr. Bromley has particular interest in scholarly activity in education as it relates to creating educationally safe learning environments. She was involved in multiple stages of the development of the new undergraduate medical curriculum Reimagining Medical Education (RIME) launched in 2023, initially with curriculum development and most recently as the Director, Professional Role.
Dr. Bromley completed a Doctor of Medicine from Memorial University of Newfoundland and a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Microbiology & Immunology at Dalhousie University. She has received several awards including the University of Calgary Student Union Teaching Excellence Award for the Faculty of Medicine, Postgraduate Medical Education Clinical Teaching Award and the Anatomical Pathology Residency Training Program Faculty Teacher of the Year Award in 2023. Outside of medicine and education, Dr. Bromley is an avid backcountry enthusiast and relishes the opportunity to share those experiences with her family.
