Summary of Research

Dr. May Lynn Quan undertakes health services research and clinical research in oncology, primarily on delivery of care, quality and outcomes for women with breast cancer. My research interests extend beyond breast cancer and she continues to be active in population based, health services work. The research she has undertaken has resulted in publications in Annals of Surgical Oncology, Cancer, Journal of Surgical Oncology, the Breast Journal and the American Journal of Surgery as well as national and international presentations. Dr. Quan highly values collaborative research. She is currently the co-Principal Investigator on RUBY, a pan-Canadian collaborative project to create a prospective cohort of women 40 years of age and under newly diagnosed with breast cancer in order to help better understand the support needs of these women, along with improving treatment and outcomes. She leads the cohort development involving 29 sites across Canada taking part in the study, which is funded by the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF - National) and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR-ICR). She is also one of the founding members of the Alberta Cancer Outcomes Research Network (ACORN). Dr. Quan has obtained a number of funding awards to support my research programme during my career.  She received funds as the principal investigator from the CIHR-ICR, the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF – Ontario, National), Alberta Innovates, the Breast Cancer Society, the Yates Memorial Endowment for Cancer Research and the Medical Services Inc (MSI) Foundation as well as been co-investigator on numerous grants from across Canada.  Her work in health services research was instrumental in the creation of the Calgary Breast Research Programme, funded through a donation to the University of Calgary, of which she is the Scientific Director.
