Activities
Dr. Trpkov has established the Anatomical Pathology Laboratory at the Rockyview General Hospital in Calgary, Alberta as one of the largest centralized uropathology centres in Canada and North America. This unique set-up provides an excellent clinical service in uropathology and represents an ideal environment for research and teaching in uropathology for medical students, residents and fellows. His areas of expertise and research interests are focused on urological pathology, including pathology of the kidney, prostate, bladder and testis, and also medical kidney and transplant pathology. His more recent research efforts has focused on characterization of novel renal tumor entities and variants, predictive and prognostic markers in uropathology, and establishing nationaly and internationaly standardizatized practice guidelines in urologic pathology.
Biography
Dr. Trpkov is an internationally recognized expert in uropathology. He is one of the leading Canadian uropathologists and he is a consultant for the Calgary Laboratory Services, Southern Alberta Institute of Urology and the Tom Baker Cancer Center in Calgary, Canada. He is also a Genitourinary (GU) Pathology Group Leader for the Calgary Laboratory Services, Chair of the provincial GU pathology Special Interest Group and a member of the provincial GU cancer team for the province of Alberta, Canada. Dr. Trpkov has published more than 100 peer-reviewed articles, several book chapters and other scholarly contributions. Dr. Trpkov is passionate about teaching and has conducted numerous courses, workshops and slide seminars in uropathology. He as been invited to speak on all continents. He is involved as a uropathology expert with several national and international expert panels and organziations, which establish guidelines in uropathology and prostate cancer. Dr. Trpkov has received several awards for his work. In 2013, he has been awarded the Grawitz medal for his outstanding contributions to the International Society of Urologic Pathology (ISUP).
