$2M grant aims to prevent lung cancers caused by environmental exposures

Cancer is the leading cause of death in Canada, yet 4 in 10 cases could be prevented through changes in lifestyle and environmental factors—highlighting how prevention, early detection, and research together can save lives and reduce the burden of cancer.

In February, the Government of Canada announced a historic, $41M+ investment for 19 research teams across the country to develop new ways to prevent cancer, reduce risk, and improve early detection for Canadians and people around the world.

Among them is the interdisciplinary team of researchers being led by Dr. Aaron Goodarzi. Their project, which aims to understand and prevent health risks associated with environmental exposures, was awarded $2 million in funding as part of the 'Bringing Biology to Cancer Prevention' Team Grants competition from CIHR and the Canadian Cancer Society.

A huge congratulations to Dr. Goodarzi and team on this achievement, and for their continued leadership in exploring environment-related lung cancer and advancing efforts that support earlier detection and prevention.
