- Outcomes for pediatric patients receiving radiotherapy and correlations with dosimetry
Summary of Research
Dr. Logie participates in clinical research and is primarily focused on pediatric patients receiving radiotherapy. For pediatric patients diagnosed with cancer, outcomes have been steadily improving. With this, we have become aware of the detrimental effects of radiotherapy delivered to developing children and teens. This includes impacting physical, emotional, and social domains. During her fellowship, she reviewed prospective quality of life data in the context of radiation dosimetry for pediatric patients receiving proton therapy. While radiotherapy may be required as part of treatment protocols, delivering radiotherapy with a focus on minimizing toxicity is of interest. Dr. Logie’s research interests focus on outcomes and dosimetry for children and adolescents receiving radiotherapy with both photons and protons. Dr. Logie is also interested in psychosocial outcomes for children and teens receiving treatment for cancer and approaches to improve this.
Dr. Logie is a University of Calgary of Radiation Oncology faculty member who specializes in pediatrics and breast cancer. Prior to joining the University of Calgary radiation oncology department, she completed her medical school and residency training at the University of Alberta and then completed a fellowship specializing in pediatric radiation oncology and proton therapy at the University of Florida Proton Institute, Jacksonville. She is active in clinical outcomes research with work published in medical journals and textbooks. Dr. Logie has presented her research at peer reviewed conferences such as the Pediatric Radiation Oncology Society (PROS) and American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO), where she was awarded “Best Poster Session” at PROS in 2017 and “Best of ASTRO” in 2015.
