Supporting the Arnie Charbonneau Cancer Institute
For over a decade, the Arnie Charbonneau Cancer Institute has been a leader in cancer research, bringing together scientists and clinicians to transform how we understand, detect, treat, and live with cancer. As a partnership between the University of Calgary and Alberta Health Services, the Charbonneau is a hub of innovation and collaboration.
Our teams investigate how lifestyle changes can help prevent cancer, develop cutting-edge methods to detect it at earlier, more treatable stages, and leverage genomic knowledge to deliver precise, effective treatments. We are also committed to improving health care delivery, ensuring accessible, high-quality care, and addressing the unique needs of patients, families, and the growing community of long-term survivors.
The goal of cancer research is to understand all these different factors and how they work together, and to create new strategies that ultimately:
- Reduce the risk of cancer in the population.
- Detect cancer earlier when it is easier to treat.
- Improve treatment options and response to cancer therapies.
- Improve the overall well-being of people with cancer – physically, mentally, and spiritually.
- Support people as they transition from treatment to survivorship or face the difficulties of end-of-life care.
