Dr. David Park reappointed as director, Hotchkiss Brain Institute

The Cumming School of Medicine (CSM) and Alberta Health Services are pleased to announce the joint reappointment of Dr. David Park, PhD, as director of the Hotchkiss Brain Institute.

The reappointment is for the period September 1, 2023 to August 31, 2028.

Dr. Park is a professor in the departments of Clinical Neurosciences and Cell Biology and Anatomy at the CSM and the Brain and Mental Health Research Strategy Lead at the University of Calgary. He completed a PhD in biochemistry at Rutgers University followed by postdoctoral training in neurobiology at Columbia University. His research explores the cellular mechanisms involved in Parkinson’s disease and stroke-related neurodegeneration.

Dr. Park is recognized for his expertise in molecular biology while his research focuses on understanding the genetic causes of Parkinson’s disease and improvements in recovery and survival after stroke. A former director of the Ottawa Brain and Mind Research Institute, he has served on many boards including the Journal of Biological Chemistry, Parkinson Canada and the Heart and Stroke Foundation. He currently sits on the board of directors for Brain Canada and serves on the strategic advisory board for the Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health at the University of British Columbia.
