The faces of COVID-19

About the speakers

Dr. Chris Mody, MD, is a clinician scientist and professor, and head of the Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Infectious Diseases at the University of Calgary. He is a pulmonologist and respirologist interested in lung infections, and his laboratory performs basic immunology and translational research in the area of microbial host defense. He is active in the area of vaccine promotion and has received awards for clinical excellence. He currently manages a combined basic science lab and a major clinical department; he has been awarded for sustained contributions in the medical and research field. 

Dr. Guido van Marle, PhD, is a molecular virologist, and an associate professor in the Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Infectious Diseases at the University of Calgary. His research focuses on HIV/AIDS and the Hepatitis B virus. He is part of a team working on COVID-19 diagnostics. He also works on research and educational capacity building in Central America and East Africa.

About the moderator

Community leader and Calgary journalist Deborah Yedlin was elected the 14th chancellor of the University of Calgary, effective July 1, 2018. Yedlin has been observing, commenting and writing about business and politics for more than two decades, as a journalist for the Financial Post, Globe and Mail and Calgary Herald newspapers. In addition to her writing, she has been a regular commentator for CBC Radio and Television, and CTV since 1996.
