Major PRISM upgrade promises better user experience

New user interface will align with best practices for privacy & accessibility

Libraries and Cultural Resources (LCR) will perform a major upgrade of PRISM between March 27-31. PRISM is UCalgary’s institutional repository that enables archiving of articles, books, theses and other scholarly publications. It is used to manage, preserve, and make available the academic works of faculty, students, and research groups.

As a result of the upgrade, the system will experience significant disruption throughout the week. Users can be assured that PRISM should operate as expected on or before April 1.

The upgrade will include:

  • A refreshed look and feel

  • Streamlined submission forms

  • Full-featured REST API allowing for data reuse & integrations

  • OpenAIRE v4 support

  • IIIF Support and/or Basic Image/Video viewer

  • Metadata import directly from many external sources (arXiv, CrossRef, Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed, etc.)

And coming soon:

  • ORCID authentication & synchronization

  • Researcher Profiles

PRISM offers broad dissemination and use of scholarly research. It offers stability and longevity - items are preserved over time, with a permanent URL assigned for each item. Students, faculty, and research groups can deposit books or book chapters, capstone projects, conference posters or presentations, journal articles, reports, reviews, theses or dissertations, and working papers. Datasets can also be stored in PRISM Data, the University's repository for data.

LCR also operates a joint project with the Faculty of Graduate Studies, ‘The Vault’. It provides graduate students with the opportunity to archive their thesis in our digital repository.
